Stevie Wonder on Whitney Houston, Not a time to be Cynical!

This article is about what some writers are afraid to say.  Stevie Wonder lost two of his dear friends

this week.  He and Whitney had been friends for years.  While we as a public put celebraties like

Whitney Houston to a  different standard, all in all she was a person just like you and I.  Yes, She had

an amazingly beautiful voice, and people adored her.  She was a person first and foremost, she had a

family life just like you and I do,  she also had everyday problems just like we all do.  Unfortunately,

she also had a drug problem that had haunted her life for years.  stevie-wonder said it best ,Those of

you who are the media and press," Wonder began, "this is not [the] time to be cynical, and not [the]

time to talk about what one did and the tragedy that happened. They were American treasures.”

We as a society put these people on pedalstool and make them live by a certain standard.  Just

because they are a singer, actor/actress, author, racecar driver they are not really that much different

from you and I.  What happened to Whitney Houston is horrible us, but has anyone really stopped

to think about how horrible this is for her family.  Her daughter lost her mother, her mother lost her

daughter, Stevie Wonder lost one of his dearest friends.  I guess what I am trying to say is that I think

it is sad that all we can do is look at the negative things that Whitney Houston had done over the last

few weeks, months or years.  I think that it is very sad that while she did some amazing things with

her life, recorded some amazing songs, and made some great movies, all that the media tends to want

to talk about is the negative things that had happened in her last days.
